Here are a few ways that people can get financial help or save money. Please note that some services may have different opening times on/around the Christmas and New Years public holidays.
Help with home energy bills
Prepayment meters
- If you have no money on your meter of have used your emergency credit and cannot afford to top-up, contact your energy supplier for immediate assistance.
- If you are a Fife Council Tenant, contact your Housing Management Officer or nearest local office for help/advice.
- If you are in temporary accommodation, speak to your temporary accommodation management officer.
- The Scottish welfare fund can provide support for vulnerable individuals on low incomes through crisis grants and community care grants. These do not need to be paid back.
- A crisis grant offers help with emergency living costs such as fuel (gas and electricity), toiletries and nappies.

Fife Gingerbread are charity that offer holistic support for lone parents and families in need all over Fife. This includes help with heating, food and toys at winter. Click the link to find out more about them and get contact details.
It may also be worth contacting your local Salvation Army branch to see if they are offering support for families this year.
Help with Christmas Gift Purchases.
A Defence Privilege Card from the Defence Discount Service can provide savings on many purchases:
- High Street savings at different shops, including Matalan, Schuh, Boots, Halfords, Cotswold Outdoors and more
- Food and drink savings at Starbucks, Burger King, Pizza Express, Wagamama and others
- Online discounts at mobile, electronics and clothing shops, cinemas, days out and more
- There is a charge: £4.99 for five years
